As always, if there&#8217;s anything you would like me to share in a future post, let me know by dropping me a line at\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000\" href=\"mailto:mcampanelli@napco.com\">mcampanelli@napco.com<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Diversity and\u00a0 Inclusion<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Consulting firm<strong> Korn Ferry<\/strong>\u00a0has consistently been providing excellent content around top-of-mind issues right now, including leadership in the time of COVID as well as diversity and inclusion best practices. <a href=\"https:\/\/infokf.kornferry.com\/rs\/494-VUC-482\/images\/5%20Classic%20DandI%20Mistakes_Portrait%20singlepages.pdf\">This report<\/a> is no exception. It walks the reader though five classic (and often overlooked) diversity and inclusion mistakes that companies make, and how to fix them.<\/li>\n<li>Check out this\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2020\/07\/we-built-a-diverse-academic-department-in-5-years-heres-how\"><em>Harvard Business Review<\/em> article<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/adia-harvey-wingfield-569b5636\/\"><strong>Adia Harvey Wingfield<\/strong><\/a>, a professor of sociology and associate dean for faculty development at <strong>Washington University in St. Louis<\/strong>. Wingfield outlines how her team &#8220;built a diverse academic department in five years.&#8221; What&#8217;s great about the article is that it features three specific steps Wingfield and her team followed to pull it off. They include: establish support from multiple stakeholders; take intentional action and deploy resources; and create a culture that welcomes and values all voices. While Wingfield is from the world of academia, retailers can learn a lot here. It starts with the most important lesson: that what her department achieved &#8220;wasn&#8217;t an accident.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000000\">Leadership<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Check out <a href=\"https:\/\/runninggreatstores.com\/2020\/05\/15\/success-mindset-chart-your-course\/\">this article<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/runninggreatstores54\/\"><strong>Rachel Williamson<\/strong><\/a>, a retail consultant who focuses on helping companies\u00a0deliver compelling customer experiences through their store talent and by running operationally excellent stores. Williamson stresses that during challenging times, choosing a success mind-set\u00a0&#8212; also known as a growth mind-set\u00a0&#8212; is key to charting your course to achieving your dreams. The first, <strong>Camp by Walmart<\/strong>, is a free, star-studded virtual camp that brings summer activities directly to customers&#8217; own backyards. The second, in partnership with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tribecaenterprises.com\">Tribeca Enterprises<\/a>, is a touring <strong>drive-in movie theater<\/strong> that will transform Walmart parking lots into outdoor cinemas. Summer is finally starting to feel like summer!<\/li>\n<li>No, you&#8217;re not imagining it, <strong>bikes<\/strong> are everywhere! As the coronavirus pandemic shrinks life in major American cities &#8212; limiting pastimes and\u00a0<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/04\/20\/nyregion\/nyc-mta-subway-coronavirus.html\">discouraging use of buses and subways<\/a>\u00a0&#8212; hundreds of thousands of Americans are\u00a0<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/05\/18\/well\/how-to-have-a-safe-family-bike-ride.html\">flocking to one of the most basic forms<\/a>\u00a0of mobility: the bicycle.
