Bankrupt department store company Saks Global is ending its e-commerce partnership with Amazon.com, reports PYMNTS<\/a>. The arrangement between the two companies had already been strained when Saks filed for bankruptcy last month, even though the retailer hadn’t specified whether it would exercise its right under Chapter 11 bankruptcy to reject the deal. Now, the luxury department store company is planning to close its \u200cSaks on Amazon storefront so it can focus on sections of \u200bits business it views as providing greater potential for growth, citing a source familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n

Saks Fifth Avenue launched its multibrand luxury storefront<\/a> on Amazon Fashion in April. The new shopping section was called Luxury Stores at Amazon. Saks Global, the parent company behind Saks Fifth Avenue, Saks OFF 5TH, Neiman Marcus, and Bergdorf Goodman, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy<\/a> protection on Jan. 14.<\/p>\n

Total Retail’s Take:<\/strong> Amazon and Saks’ fledgling luxury e-commerce partnership has gone sour in less than 10 months. The storefront, dubbed “Luxury Stores at Amazon,” curated by Saks Fifth Avenue, was part of Amazon’s equity investment in Saks Global at the time of its formation in 2024. The e-commerce giant quickly challenged Saks Global’s recent bankruptcy filing, accusing Saks of breaching their agreement and arguing its investment is now “presumptively worthless.”<\/p>\n

Amazon isn’t closing its luxury storefront, however. A spokesperson told Reuters<\/a>, “Beyond the Saks experience, the Amazon luxury store continues to offer a wide selection of high-end designer styles, and \u2060we’re adding more luxury brands regularly.”<\/p>\n
